'Tis the season for crock pot cooking!
I'm a slow cooker cook from way back and I have noticed just how many people have started ordering slow cookers from my review pages now that the cooler weather is here, which got me thinking...
What are the best programmable 6 quart slow cookers under $50 in 2012?
Today we will look at the top sellers list from
Crock Pot.
In first place is the
Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S 6-Quart Programmable Cook and Carry Oval Slow Cooker in Stainless Steel which I cannot believe how many people have ordered from my review page in recent weeks! Last time I checked, it was number 2 seller in Slow Cooker, today it is number 1! This beautiful model has everything you need, regardless of whether you are an experienced slow cooker cook or not. Just follow the delicious recipes in the
instruction manual and you will quickly pick up how long and at what temperature a certain weight and cut of meat takes to cook. To program it you just select your temperature and program in the time - which is given to you in the
recipe book, so you can't possibly get it wrong! And then once the meal is cooked, this model switches to 'keep warm' mode and holds it at a safe temperature until you are ready to serve.
This large oval 6 quart slow cooker will cook a 6 pound roast - you must try the Crock Pot "Pot Roast" - which easily feeds 8-10 people - and in fact you will find more recipes for up to 10 servings such as the famous and delicious Baby Back Ribs, and Sausage and Meatball recipes - oh they do sound good! The
recipe book has two beef and one chicken casserole recipes that feed between 4 and 8 as well - and there is also a tasty sounding easy fish fillet recipe to - which is great to have just for a bit of variety.

In second place is the

Simply set the cooking time on either “High” for 4 or 6 hours or on “Low” for 8 or 10 hours and you're done! When I saw this option, I was amazed, this is pure genius! I have been cooking with a crock pot for 20-odd years, so you can trust me when I tell you almost everything I cook is at either of these settings. In fact most of my frequently cooked recipes are "cook on low for 8-10 hours" which is perfect for most busy working families - especially with this slow cooker as it shifts to 'warm mode' once cooking time is over. This slow cooker is clever and makes your life easy, and gives you a beautiful hot meal to come home to at the end of the day.
The

instruction manual/recipe book too - which has all the recipes mentioned above. Yum!

In third place is the elegant
Crock-Pot SCCPQP600-S 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel which if I owned, would never leave the counter top! It is so beautiful, even though bench space is at a premium in my apartment kitchen, I would leave this out. (My slow cooker is used at least 3 times a week, so to never put it away leaves more cupboard space!) This model is very similar, programming-wise to the one above, just the high or low with two time choices on each heat setting - as I said above, it really is all you need for every day cooking. The main difference is the display is easier to use and it has a digital display so you can see the timer counting down. It has convenient cord storage and sleek handles, so if you did put in back in the cupboard, it makes that job a bit easier!
As for the previous two Crock Pot slow cookers, the
Crock-Pot SCCPQP600-S 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel has an
instruction manual/recipe book too - which looks remarkably familiar!
Today this slow cooker had only been reviewed by 1 person who gave it a 5 Star rating, so even though it looks amazing, I would personally be choosing from the first two... actually I would buy the first one - it has a digital display and it is actually cheaper - no wonder it is the number one best selling programmable slow cooker on Amazon today!
